I suppose, to borrow a phrase from Elizabeth Zimmermann, I should blog on with hope and confidence through all crises, but lately I kind of suck at it. (Not pointing out that I normally suck at it is much appreciated, friends.) I blog so sporadically that every time I start again I am disgusted by how awkward it all comes out. Now the cure is, of course, to do it regularly so that it becomes natural, but I always feel guilty subjecting my blog audience to that much rambling. But, let’s face it, if you’re here you’re probably my friend and you know to expect the rambling.
So far 2011 has been marked by a few themes. One is illness. Not the serious kind, but a string of colds and flu that turned all bacterial and ended up requiring 5 runs of antibiotics and as many doctors visits between the two of us. I’m happy to report that we have both been healthy and semi-energetic again since mid-February. The whole thing has made me incredibly grateful for two things especially 1) The ExpressCare clinic that costs us less than $50 a visit and offered free follow-ups for the same illnesses. I don’t even know how much a regular appointment at my doctor’s office plus strep test would cost, but I’m sure it would be a lot more. 2) All of those $5 and discounted prescriptions available these days. Not all of the drugs we ended up with were advantageously priced, but the ones that were helped us so much. I still remember the pharmacist asking me if I knew when we’d have insurance, and me responding that it would be when we could get someone to give it to us, and the look of pity and shame in her eyes.
Another theme has been work, and that’s a lovely one. We took a break from being sick for the last week of January for Sundance, and then just when I was starting to feel better in February I got a few scouting gigs, one that took me to the top of a bobsled track and then the top of a mountain, and another that took me all over the valley for a few stressful but interesting weeks.
The other main one I can identify right now is Doctor Who, but if you read my last few posts you knew that already. Such a good show that when we got home from my parents house on Christmas, a day I usually reserve for Christmas movies, all I wanted to watch was more Doctor Who.
I have also been knitting and crocheting (not much spinning for some reason), and while I have a few finished things I will show soon, for now here’s a glance at my current project:
